HI I'M DOM
BRANDGRAPHIC + WEB DESIGNER · SOUTH JERSEY
I’m Dom Houghton, a graphic and web designer who likes being involved from the first idea all the way through the final details.
After years of working as an in-house designer, I found myself getting more and more interested in branding, especially logo design. Logos have always been one of my favorite things to work on, but over time I wanted to push myself further and think beyond just the mark. A logo is only one piece of a brand, and I wanted to get better at building everything that can live around it.
That’s a big reason I started Hoot Creative Co. It gives me a place outside of my day-to-day design work to build brands from the ground up, take on projects I’m excited about, and keep exploring the kind of work I want to do more of. The name Hoot comes from a family nickname, so it felt like the right way to make the studio feel personal to me.

HOW I GOT HERE
HOW I GOT HERE
HOW I GOT HERE
I got into design because I liked making things and figuring out how they were put together. That eventually turned into studying media design, finishing my bachelor’s degree, and continuing to learn through UX/UI, web design, motion, 3D, and whatever else a project has pushed me toward.
Since then, I’ve had the chance to work on everything from small brand identities and logo systems to a website with more than 100 pages, retail packaging, advertising, coffee shop signage, and graphics used in professional sports.
The more I’ve worked, the more I’ve realized I don’t want to be boxed into one type of design. Logo design might be where I feel most at home, but I want to be able to take that logo and build an entire world around it.
I still approach new projects the same way I did when I started: there’s always something I don’t know yet, and I’m willing to learn it.

How I Work
I’ve always been the kind of designer who wants to understand more than just my part of a project. If I’m designing a website, I want to know how it’s built. If I’m working on packaging, I want to understand how it prints. If I’m creating a logo, I want to know how that identity is going to work on everything that comes after it.
That’s also why branding has become such a big part of what I like to do. It forces me to think about the bigger picture instead of stopping once the logo is finished. Color, type, packaging, web, social, print, and everything else should feel like they belong to the same brand.
As design keeps changing, especially with AI becoming a bigger part of the industry, I don’t want to rely on one skill or one type of work. I want to keep learning, growing, and finding ways to bring more to a project than just making something look good.
